Mobile Features We Don’t Use

1.Blu-ray: This next-gen optical disk format stores large amounts of data and boasts better quality and sound. It looks just like any other CD but has five times the storage capacity of a standard DVD. Used for storing games and high-definition movies. Blu-ray players or gadgets that support Blu-ray can also “upscale” DVDs to a higher resolution so that they look better than before.

2. Internet banking: still standing in queue being bheja-fried by droopy public-sector bank officials who start their afternoon siesta at 10am? Enter the era of Net banking. Account-to-account transfer, loan application, paying of bills, getting a bank statement-it’s all just click away. Get savvy, save time and experience the can’t-remember-the-last-time-I’ve –been-to-a-bank feeling. It’s heavenly.

3. Portable hard discs: and we mean beyond the pen drive and the CD. Extended hard discs start at 120GB goes up to 1 terabyte, which is enough to store your life’s work and play! If only there were virtual wardrobes, life would be so much more spacious! A 120GB hard discs comes for around Rs4, 000.The use of SSD memory cards for laptops has also picked up in recent times but there is scope for plenty more.

4. File-sharing: Receive or send digital files over a network. File-sharing is important, particularly when large-sized files need to be shared. Most sites like Google Talk or Skype have file-sharing options. Social networking site Face book also has this cool FreeDrive application by which files can be shared online and kept private or public. There’s also Lime Wire, KaZaA, eMule, BitTorrent and Filehippo MobileMe is another cool applications introduced by Apple which gives users a virtual and personal 20GB hard disk on its iDisk-and for a change you don’t have to own a Mac 1! All you need is Safari 3 or Firefox 2 for the Mac, plus Internet Explorer 7 for Windows.

5. M-payment (mobile payment): Simply put, it is the payment of bills through one’s mobile phone. Not satisfies your landline, the mobile phone has long had its eyes on replacing the wallet. Leading service providers have options that allow one to pay the mobile bill by just making a call and entering one’s credit card details through an automated menu. It saves you the time and hassle of the trip to the nearest store.

Elsewhere in the world, mobile phone manufacturers are making phones that can be used as a payment device by simply swiping it across a reader. Imagine paying the restaurant bill directly from the table without having to use sign language to let your waiter know that you want the cheque. All you would need to do is to connect to the restaurant’s cash register wirelessly.

6. Online shopping: Why shop at flowers chocolates? Pile up your virtual shopping cart with almost anything imaginable as you make your way through cyberspace. Tech tools sell the most on sites like eBay India but its listed price is Rs36,000 and an additional 2,000. Not a good bargain. Moral of the story? Do some research before you buy. Or to make some cash instead of spending it, E-commerce has become a secondary source of income for housewives and students on sites like Rediff and futurebazaar.com.

7. Mobile features: Someone once said that mobile phone is like a Swiss army knife, except without the sharp edges. when was the last time you used your constant handheld companion for anything apart from dialling, texting or at the very most, emailing? And you aren’t alone;apparently only 10 per cent of mobile phone users utilize all the phone’s facilities. Here are five most ignored mobile features.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

· GPRS: it is all but guarantees access to the Internet anytime, anyplace. Your service provider will set it up on your mobile at the nearest store. It is practically free if you use GPRS only to check mail. For downloading, it costs some more. You can also share the connection with your laptop. Plus once India has 3G technology, it will get better.

· USB cable: a genius wire that connects the PC or printer to the mobile. If not for creating a back-up of contacts, use it to transfer MP3

Ringtones stored on your computer’s hard drive, free!

· Mobile blogging: It took Aamir Khan, Big B, and Karan Johar to turn online blogging into a rage. And mobile blogging makes it so much more

fun, making possible minutes by minutes updates. Upload and share a picture as soon as you click it. It can’t get even faster than this. You will

need GPRS.

· RSS reader: Get up to date news on your cellphone. They use small file sizes and consume less bandwidth.

· Conference calling: Even if your phone does not support it, most cell service providers do.

How to get blazing surf speed in Blackberry?

Forget about datacards and USB modem if you have a blackberry and a laptop and want to get on the internet. You will get speeds close to that on a broadband connection (300 kbps).Well; here is how to do it.

This process will work flawlessly on Windows XP and a Mac with Tiger and Leopard, but God help you if you have Vista. Vista is full of bugs and its security settings prevent you from even loading basic softwares easily.

If you own a desktop with a Bluetooth dongle attached or a laptop with Windows XP service pack 2 installed, the process is simple. Go to Start-Control Panel and click on the Bluetooth icon. Click on the options tab. Put a tick mark against:

· Turn Discovery On

· Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer

· Alert me when a Bluetooth device wants to connect

· Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area

Click on Apply and OK.

Now go to your Blackberry desktop and navigate to the options icon. Click on it and then on Bluetooth and enable it. Press the options icon (the one with the Blackberry logo) on the left of the trackball and select enable Bluetooth. On older Blackberries you have to navigate with the roller in the right and press it to enable Bluetooth. Press the Blackberry icon button on your phone once again and select Options from the menu. Here do the following:

· Device Name : Give your phone a name

· Discoverable : Yes

· Allow Outgoing Calls : Always

· Address Book Transfer : Enabled

· LED Connection Indicator : Yes

· Click the Blackberry icon and save.

Next pair your laptop or desktop with your Blackberry. Right click on the Bluetooth icon on the lower right of your taskbar. Click on add a device and a wizard will guide you. On the first window of the wizard put a checkmark against “My device is set up and ready to be found.”Select your phone on the second screen (it might appear as CSR-bs4 or the name you have given your phone) and click next. The third screen will ask you to select a pass key. Select “Let me choose my own passkey”. Choose any combination of numbers. The moment you will press next, a dialog box will appear on your phone asking you to enter a passkey. Enter the same number you have entered on your computer and press enter on your phone

Immediately you will notice on your computer the phone’s drivers being loaded and it will tell you that your hardware is ready for use.

Set up a new dialup connection by clicking on network connections in the control panel. Follow the wizard for a dialup connection. Leave the username and password field blank. For number to dial insert *99*99***1#.

One last step. In the control panel click on phone and modem options. Select standard modem over Bluetooth link and click on properties. Click on the advanced tab. Under extra initialization command enter this exactly without making a mistake: AT+CGDCONT=1,”ip”,”airtelgprs.com”.

Do not put space anywhere. Click on Apply and OK. If your service provider is Vodafone, replace airtelgprs.com with www. If you are not sure, ask your provider’s helpdesk what the APN is.

Now go back to the dialup connection you have created and click on Connect. Once connected browse to your hearts content.

Free Apps For A Hassle Free Computer

Why pay for softwares when you can get programs that are usually better and absolutely free. Don’t waste your money on things like Office Suites, PC Optimizers and video and audio tools. Instead, spend wisely by buying two absolute essentials-Windows XP and Internet Security Suite. I will introduce you to some superb downloads that will keep you happy and your computer free of hitches for years to come.

I have had hassle-free computing on my Pc for over 2 years which costs Rs 25,000. I get a lot of good softwares from www.sourceforge.net. It is a free fantastic repository of free open source programs and the world’s largest open source development website. Today I will give you tips on where to free apps from other sites to keep your PC trouble free.

First, avoid Internet Explorer for browsing. It inevitably spells trouble for 90 percent of users. Especially so if you are using a pirated copy of windows and do not have a proper security suite. A security suite comprises of a firewall and anti-virus and anti-spyware tools. Switch to Firefox or Chrome. Type either of the names in Google search bar and you will get the links to download them.

Let me introduce you to some free tools and utilities that will prevent crashes, error messages, and make your PC start and shutdown faster. If you want your computer to run smoothly, your computer’s registry have to be clean. In a windows operating system, the registry is the database that stores all the setup, user preferences, software and hardware configuration information. The registry is vital for proper running of the operating system.

CCleaner

(www.ccleaner.com) : Ccleaner your system by wiping off temp files, cookies, browsing history, recent document lists, long files in the Recycle Bin, and a lot of other digital dirt. The utility is very good cleaning orphaned and unused registry entries. The program was updated recently and now works even better.

Advanced Windows Care Personal

(http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.htm) :

You may think that your computer has been affected by a virus if it keeps crashing or slowing down. This program will speed up your boot time, keep it free by working on your registry and run your computer at top speed day after day. This is my personal favorite.

Absolute Uninstaller

(www.glarysoft.com):

Some times you will find that you are unable to uninstall a program that you do not need anymore. It just eats up hard disk space and lies latent on your PC. Absolute uninstaller is similar to Windows Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel, but more powerful. The standard Add/Remove program cannot uninstall applications completely which often leaves broken registry keys, useless files on the hard disk. The more junk files your computer accumulates, the slower it runs. The program’s Uninstall Manager can wipe off all the junk in seconds. It is a user-friendly way to remove redundant applications and to improve your computer’s efficiency.

Uniblue Process Scanner

(www.processlibrary.com) :

What do you do when a program stops responding? You press Control-Alt-Del to go to Task Manager and click End Task. However, this does not close the unresponsive program. You will then need to kill the process by right clicking and selecting. Go to Process and End Process. But in doing so you may kill a wrong process. You need to understand what you are stopping. This is where the Process Scanner along with the Process Library gives you extra information on each process. It will list whether the process auto starts or not and the maker of the software. You can even find out the security risk associated with running the process. I find this tool absolutely essential because I can spot if a spyware, Trojan or malware has somehow slipped into my system.

Tip of the week:

Unable to get CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator? Don’t worry, just go to www.inkscape.org and download the program. It is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG).

Best Paid Software:

Internet Download Manager

www.internetdownloadmanager.com

It speeds up download speed to the highest bandwidth available by breaking a file down to many parts and establishing number of simultaneous connection. I was able to download XP Service Pack 3 (316 mb) in a dialup internet with its help.A truly great software.
