Wireless Internet Connection

Wireless or mobile internet connection has become common these days due to its reliability and transportability.Various ways to connect to internet wirelessly are :

1. GPRS-(General Packet Radio Service) It allows gprs enabled handsets to connect to the internet. One can get speeds of about 28-42 kbps. Which is quite less than a normal dialup connection of 52kbps.GPRS enabled handsets costs above Rs 3,000. Some GPRS plans:


i. Bsnl Postpaid Rs 199/month unlimited usage only on postpaid plan, Rs 49/month 5mb free download upload additional 10p per kb.




ii. Airtel Rs 25/day and unlimited usage.



iii. Reliance GSM Rs300 for 1 months unlimited usage.

2. EDGE(Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution)It provides faster data transmission than GPRS. About 150-175 kbps. At present only metros in India have EDGE networks. EDGE enabled mobile phones cost above RS 5,000.

3. 3G-It can provide high data transfer rate 384kbps-3mbps.It is expected to be operational in India from 2009.3G enabled cell phones costs much more Rs 15,000 above.

Bsnl provides 3g services in many towns with low call rates and 1 gb internet for Rs 400.

4. BLACKBERRY-At present what you can get is high speed internet through Blackberry about 300 kbps. It has a built in modem and the data is routed through a UK server. Its price starts from Rs15,000.

5. Data Cards and USB Modems are available from Reliance and Airtel. They cost between Rs 2,500 and Rs3,750. They provide speed of 100kbps.


Bsnl Data Card: The card costs Rs 2,800 and unlimited
internet @ 144 kbps for Rs 199 only. A good bet.
