Things to keep in mind before buying laptop

Good Laptop Configuration

Display:
Most users overlook this and think about internal specs like processor, hard drive, ram and graphics card.
But what will be the use if pictures on the screen looks dull and inaccurate. Brightness should be greater than 180 lux atleast. And contrast above 200:1. notebookcheck.net provides detailed info about laptop screen displays.
There are two types of display:
  1. Matt: These are anti-reflective and are a must if you plan to use your laptop outdoors.
  2. Glossy: These are more suitable for indoor use specially for watching movies and playing games on.

Processor:
  • intel i3 is or amd a8 enough for normal office and home entertainment needs.
  • intel i5 or amd a10 is required for casual gamers and those who are in video and photo editing and other processor intensive tasks.
  • intel i7 is only reqired for hardcore gamers..
amd crossfire mode currently has some issues running games. read deteailed review about the notebook you want to purchase or you may end up putting your money for the wrong cow.

Hard Drive:

Capacity of hard drive required depends on usage. Those into movies and gaming requires atleast 1 TB storage.
There are mainly 3 types of hard drives:
  1. 5200 rpm: These are slower and quiter and most common. They have slower read and write speeeds.
  2. 7200 rpm: These are faster.
ssd drives: These are fastest and costly. Using it as os drive can fire up windows 7 in as little as 25sec.

Ram:
4 gb ram is standard for normal use.
2 gb is sufficient for office use. But 4 gb is recommended to make your system future proof.

Graphics:

people usually know and categorise gpu on the basis of capacity like 512mb, 1gb, 2 gb.
But these doesn't matter much.
Actual things which matter are clock speed and memory speed.
Recommended gpu size is 1gb. For a list of gpu according to performance see another post in this blog.

You may visit notebookcheck.net for details about various gpus .

Keyboard and Touchpad:

Keyboard should provide good feedback.  Bad keyboard makes typing a hell like job.
Touchpad should be highly accurate with multi touch support for scrolling, zooming etc. No one likes to keep repeating the gesture on touchpad again and again to get the desired effect on screen.

Ports and connectivity:
A laptop should include all basic ports like hdmi, vga out, lan port, minimum 3 usb ports including a usb 3.0 port, card reader, dvd rw, wifi b/g/n, bluetooth 3.0 or above and optional card reader.
